Doris Jane (Mitchell) Wood, of Sulphur Rock, was called Home by the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Doris entered the gates of Heaven at the age of 74. She was born March 4, 1948, in Dyess, AR, to the late Elmer Ewell Mitchell and Avis Maxine (Bangs) Hall. Doris was of Christian faith and attended worship services at Newark Assembly of God. She was a fun-loving, spunky, comical woman who never met a stranger. She was strong-willed, confident, and secure about who she was, which made her the “life of the party” anywhere she went. Doris loved to paint, enjoyed crocheting, was a fantastic cook and even served as an officer in the local EH Club (Extension Homemakers). She enjoyed stopping at yard sales and liked taking trips to Tunica, MS. But of all of Doris’ hobbies and passions, nothing gave her more joy than fulfilling her God-given role as a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was “a mother to all” and everyone knew they could depend on Doris as a source of laughter, love, and encouragement. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 53 years, Gary Wood; her 4 sons, David Wood (Margaret), Allan Wood, Gary Wood (Michelle), and Greg Wood (Rhonda); her two daughters, Lori Doyle (Chuckie) and Diana Martin (James); her son-in-law, Charles Barker; her brother, Junior Mitchell (Vickie), her 16 grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Nick, Sabrina, Ritchie, Dee, Rebecca, Brittany, Jennifer, Justin, Tanner, Paige, Ross, Lindsey, Hunter, and Madison; her 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and her 2 dogs, Buster and Ginger. She is reunited in Heaven with both of her parents; her daughter, Denise Barker; her daughter-in-law, Kim Wood; her great-grandson, Cody; and her dog Jackie.
Services are entrusted to Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, AR. There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 5 pm until 7 pm. The funeral service, officiated by Brian Combee, will be held Monday, August 29, 2022, at 2 pm, both services will be at Willis Funeral Service’s Chapel in Batesville, AR. Interment will follow at Sulphur Rock Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Justin Doyle, Tanner Doyle, Ross Nelson, Zachary Scott, River Scott, Silvio Madrigal, Jimmy Mitchell, and Ryan Mitchell. The family would like to recognize the following persons as honorary pallbearers: Charles Barker, Cole Medina, Jimmy Bangs, and Junior Mitchell.
