Rebecca Lou (Hollingsworth) Sutter, age 85, of Pleasant Plains, left this earthly home for her heavenly home on August 31, 2022, after suffering a massive stroke.

She arrived into this world on February 6, 1937, born to John and Lenore Josephine Hollingsworth, in Walters, Oklahoma.

As a young child, her family moved often, following the crops for harvest. Fate brought her to Pleasant Plains, where she would meet the love of her life, Lewie Roy Sutter, Jr. They were married on September 14, 1954, and spent the next 67 years together. They reared 4 children: Lana Kay Murphree (Thomas) of Bee Branch; Sandra Dee Turner (Terry) of Bradford; Michael Wayne Sutter (Karen) of Pleasant Plains; and Vonda Sue Harris (Michael) of Pleasant Plains. Their love extended to cradle 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Her Christian faith and love of Our Lord and Savior inspired many as she taught Sunday school for 48 years, where she was affectionately known as ‘Granny Becky.’ She always made sure the little ones knew the Lord’s Prayer, Psalms 23, and the books of the Bible. She was a charter member of Lifeline Baptist Church and ministered through music with her devoted love of gospel hymns. Along with the family, she spent many nights attending area gospel revivals worshiping through song.

Although she was considered a homemaker, she worked beside her husband in their farming operation. She could pull weeds from the soybean fields with the best of them! She was also an accomplished seamstress who served the community for years. Even though self-taught, she could sew anything from everyday clothing to pageant, prom, and wedding dresses.

One of her greatest loves was cooking for her family. Every Sunday dinner seemed like a thanksgiving meal and everyone was welcome. She will forever be remembered for her popcorn balls on Halloween, no one can make them with as much love as Ms. Becky.

With all she did, she made time for writing to her sisters and visiting on the phone with her bestest friends, Mary York and Emogene McAdams.

In addition to her children, Rebecca was blessed with a host of extended family and friends. Family was important to her and she shared her love with many. She is survived by sisters: Ola Mae Ashcaft of Russellville, Ark.; Flora Mae ‘Ginger’ Hutts of Missouri; and sister-in-law, Linda Frances Pearson (Woody) of Pleasant Plains — as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Arlie Joe DeVaill; brother, John Hollingsworth; sister, Lenore Marie Dobbs; and an infant granddaughter.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lifeline Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 3 at 2 p.m. at Lifeline Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains with grandson, Timothy Altom officiating.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant Plains Cemetery.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Micheal Bruce Harris, Jr, Skyler Wayne Sutter, Jacob Kameron Turner, Brandon Mycal Altom, Timothy Caleb Altom, and Daniel Keetan Altom.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bradford Memorial Funeral Home.
