A Batesville woman has been charged after authorities allege she tried to run over another woman with a vehicle at a local shopping center.

According to the arrest affidavit, Batesville Police were dispatched to the Eagle Mountain Shopping Center on Tuesday morning regarding someone driving erratically through the parking lot and trying to run over a female subject.

Officers said in the court information that contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Janis Louise Rose, 65, of Batesville, and her passenger, identified as her grandson.

The officers also spoke with the alleged victim, who is the wife of the grandson, according to the court information. The wife told the officers the three were driving in town for an appointment and had been in an argument “all morning.” When the vehicle was in the shopping center parking lot, she told officers she got out of the vehicle “in an attempt to get away from her husband and Rose,” the affidavit said.

That’s when she said Rose tried to run her over with the vehicle.

Bystanders confirmed the story to officers, saying Rose’s vehicle had many “near misses,” almost hitting the woman, who one officer noted was visibly upset and crying.

The witnesses also said they could hear the woman screaming to Rose, “Leave me alone,” and “No,’ as she was running, trying to get away from the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

Janis L. Rose (pictured below) is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault on a family or household member. She was taken to the Independence County Jail. Her bond was set at $10,000.
