The Old Independence Regional Museum will launch a new tour called “Mayhem on Main Street” on Friday, Oct. 14.
Participants will be able to experience historic downtown Batesville, the oldest existing town in Arkansas, in a new and interesting way. The tour will include stories related to a cemetery, parks, and historic buildings. Participants will travel the streets of old Batesville and hear chilling and true stories about our history.
The Mayhem on Main Street tour storytellers, tour guides, and historical character impersonators will provide visitors with an eerie and entertaining experience, the museum said in a release announcing the tour.
The Mayhem on Main Street tour includes 17 of the most popular historical sites on a 90-minute walking adventure. The tour will focus on the true stories of robbery, fires, murder, scandal, and more.
“We are thrilled to launch this new tour,” said Nestor Ruiz, volunteer at the Old Independence Regional Museum. “Historic Batesville is best seen by foot, and as such, we are excited to debut this insightful event.”
“Nestor has done a lot of research to ensure factual information,” said Museum Director Mandi Curtwright. “Some of the stories will probably be very surprising.”
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for youth 12 and under. The tour will begin in Maxfield Park located in downtown Batesville. Tickets can be purchased at Old Independence Regional Museum at 380 S. 9th St. or online via Eventbrite by clicking here.
