John Allen Cowles, 78, of Cave City, formerly of Memphis Tennessee passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at Cave City. He was born June 3, 1944, in Charleston Pennsylvania to John Cowles and Rose Comfort Cowles. He was a police officer for the University of Memphis. He was also a Sheriff’s Reservist for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. As a volunteer, he spoke to students about the dangers of drinking and driving. He was also a member of the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and a registered Emergency Medical Volunteer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; four brothers, Wilfred Perry, Carl Perry, Ellis Ray Perry and Nolan Perry; two sisters, Freda Perry Bowers and Treva Perry Gee and brother-in-law Fred Saliba.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Ann Cowles of the home; two daughters, Ann Marie Cowles and Josephine (James) Stone; six grandchildren, Anna, Logan, Bethany, Alexis, Amber and Benjamin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Barth House on the University of Memphis Campus and Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City, Arkansas with George Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The Lung Cancer Foundation of America or The Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
