A welcome relief from the dry weather came around midday Wednesday as a few rounds of showers and storms popped up throughout the region. The National Weather Service in Little Rock says a cold front moving into the state will likely bring storms through the evening in portions of central, eastern, and southeastern Arkansas

However, significantly drier air will move into the region behind the cold front on Thursday with gusty, northerly winds through the afternoon. The weather service says extremely low relative humidity values tomorrow and critically dry ground could still cause fire danger to further increase.

Scattered showers and storms will be possible again Saturday and Sunday, but at this time, the threat of severe weather is low.

By next week, much cooler and drier air will move into the state with wildfire danger likely remaining elevated.

This morning, Lock and Dam 1 on the White River in Batesville was a bit barren. The exposed, moss-covered concrete drew a few onlookers and photographers on both sides of the river throughout the day.
