So many times, stories regarding fatalities related to illegal drugs are published.
But not all of the stories regarding drug overdoses end on such a tragic note.
Naloxone is a medicine that is used to rapidly reverse opioid overdoses. It can be administered by spray into the nostrils or intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous. Naloxone can save lives.
Independence County law enforcement officers are trained to administer Naloxone so it can reverse and block the effects of opioids such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone.
Three members of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department received lifesaving awards today from the Criminal Justice Institute this morning: Deputy Chris Martin who saved a life on Sept. 21, 2021; Deputy Zach Spohr who saved a life on Oct. 31, 2021; and Sheriff Shawn Stephens who saved a life on Oct. 30, 2021.
The three were recognized for their lifesaving efforts utilizing Naloxone this morning by the State of Arkansas Drug Director Kirk Lane.
During the presentation, Lane said it is so encouraging to hear of a life saved instead of one lost by an opioid overdose.
