The chance for severe weather tonight has prompted some area high schools to start their Friday football a little earlier.

The Melbourne Bearkats will cap off their undefeated regular season with a road game against the Atkins Red Devils. That game will now begin at 5:30 p.m.

Coming off their exciting “Battle of the Bridge” win, the Southside Southerners will visit the Paragould Rams with a kickoff now scheduled for 6 p.m. while the Mountain View Yellowjackets will start at the same time as they begin their battle for the Club Division Eight Man State Championship, hosting the Fountain Lake Cobras.

And Cave City Superintendent Steve Green said the start time for their senior festivities tonight has been moved to 5:30 p.m. while their game against Harding Academy will also begin at 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, a cold front will move across the state later tonight, bringing possible severe storms and strong gusty winds.

In the Batesville-Mountain View area, the NWS forecasts showers and possible thunderstorms between 10 p.m. tonight and 4 a.m. Saturday. Breezy conditions are expected with potential wind gusts as high as 40 mph. The rainfall amounts could be between one and two inches.

Gradual sunshine is expected tomorrow as the system moves out, but wind gusts could be as high as 25 mph. The temperature is only expected to hit 65 for a high on Saturday.
