Independence County Judge-elect Kevin Jeffery recently shared his experience of hunting a white-tail buck with White River Now. Jeffery harvested the deer on Nov. 26. He said his co-workers at FutureFuel have nicknamed the buck, Judge Buck. Read Jeffery’s thoughts on Judge Buck below.

Judge Buck

I have been hunting the elusive white-tail in Independence County since I was a boy. I can recall a time when seeing a deer track was exciting. Today we have an abundance of deer, and I am part of a hunting club with local farmers Gordon and Keith Harmon that enjoy fellowship and partaking of campfire-prepared meals fit for a king.

As the hunting season progresses, the chances of seeing a mature white-tail diminish. Good fortune did shine on the cold foggy morning of Nov. 26, when a majestic buck appeared in the hazy distance in the Greenbrier Township. As is often the case, I had mere seconds to remove a bulky glove and turn 180 degrees to make a 250-yard shot on a moving deer. As it turns out, this buck is the largest I’ve encountered while hunting in our county.

For me personally, I can’t think of a better way to enter the County Judge’s office than experiencing the best Independence County hunt of my life.
