Gary David Wood, 85, of Sulphur Rock entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Gary was born August 16, 1937, in Cushman, AR to the late Hayden Wood and Geraldine (Edwards) Wood. He was of Christian faith and attended church at Newark Assembly of God in Newark, AR. Gary will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, and friend. Gary married the love of his life, Doris Jane Mitchell on December 16, 1968; Doris was called home to be with the Lord on August 23 of this year, which means they will celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary in Heaven. Gary and Doris were true “gypsies”, they traveled everywhere together and loved every moment they were blessed to have with each other. Gary enjoyed trips to Tunica, MS, and playing scratch-off tickets. He loved riding around with his dogs and spending time on the road. More than anything though, Gary loved his family. He was a loving, fun-filled soul who will be forever loved and dearly missed.
Gary is survived by his 4 sons, David Wood (Margaret), Allan Wood, Gary Wood (Michelle), and Greg Wood (Rhonda); his 2 daughters, Lori Doyle (Chuckie) and Diana Martin (James); his son-in-law, Charles Barker; his 2 sisters, Dana Campbell (Bob) and Barbara Furtaw (Louis); 16 grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Nick, Sabrina, Ritchie, Dee, Rebecca, Brittany, Jennifer, Justin, Tanner, Paige, Ross, Lindsey, Hunter, and Madison; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; and his dog Buster. Gary is reunited in Heaven with both of his parents, Hayden and Geraldine Wood; his beloved wife, Doris (Mitchell) Wood; his daughter, Denise Barker; his daughter-in-law, Kim Wood; his sisters, Betty Nash and Kathy Powell; his brother Jim Wood; his great-grandson, Cody Treadway; and his dog Ginger.
Services are entrusted to Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, AR. There will be a visitation on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 12 pm until 2 pm at Willis Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville, AR. Gary’s funeral service will also be at Willis Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2 pm, officiated by Bro. Brian Combee, with interment to follow at Sulphur Rock Cemetery in Sulphur Rock, AR.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Justin Doyle, Tanner Doyle, Ross Nelson, River Scott, Zach Scott, and Cole Medina. The family would like to recognize all of Gary Wood’s sons and sons-in-law as honorary pallbearers.
