Two people were rescued Tuesday night in Greene County after being trapped on the roof of a truck submerged in a relief ditch.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder said in a post on social media that authorities located the truck in the relief ditch between the Big Slough Ditch and the St. Francis River. Two deputies were able to reach the truck occupants by boat and pull them to safety without injury. The post said approximately eight inches of the truck’s top was above water.
Snyder said the incident, which happened around 8:11 p.m., was a stark reminder of why it is important not to travel in water-covered roadways.
