A Batesville Pioneer graduate who was named the 2019 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All Arkansas Preps Female Athlete of the Year was honored at Friday’s home basketball game.
Taylor Griffin, who competed as a Pioneer in volleyball, basketball, and track, was presented with a plaque recognizing Jan. 6, 2023, as “Taylor Griffin Night” to honor her contributions to Batesville High School and Pioneer Athletics.
She was recognized between the senior games at the Batesville High School Charter gymnasium.
In her volleyball career, Taylor was named All-Conference in 2016, 2017, and 2018. She was named to the All-State Tournament Team in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and she earned All-State honors in 2017 and 2018.
Taylor capped her high school volleyball career by being named to the 2019 Arkansas Activities Association All-Star team.
In her basketball career, Taylor earned All-Conference recognition in the 2016-2017 season, the 2017-2018 season, and the 2018-2019 season. Taylor was named to the All-State Tournament Basketball team in each of those three seasons and earned All-State Honors in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons.
Taylor was recognized by the Arkansas Basketball Coach’s Association as a Class 5A Top 5 Player in 2018 and 2019. Taylor capped off her basketball career by helping lead the Lady Pioneers to the 2019 4A State Basketball Championship.
In her track career, Taylor was named All-Conference and All-State in 2019, when she was the High Point winner at the 2019 4A East Conference Track Meet and set the Batesville High School Long Jump record with a jump of 17 feet, 2 inches.
Taylor also competed in the long jump in the 2016 Meet of Champs and in the 2019 Heptathlon, where she scored a top 15 finish and set a Batesville High School record with 3,646 points.
