Obituary: Thelma Oneda (Halcom) Martin

Thelma Oneda (Halcom) Martin, 89, of Batesville, AR, died on Friday, February 10, 2023. Oneda was born on November 14, 1933, in Dowdy, AR, to the late Duel Halcom and Daisy (Hensley) Halcom. Oneda was of Christian faith and was a member of Quail Valley Free Will Baptist Church, in Batesville, AR. Oneda loved to serve others and she never met a stranger. She worked at White River Medical Center in Batesville as a nurse’s aide for many years. Oneda loved all her family and was very invested in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Oneda is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Eskel “Ray” Martin; her brothers, George “G.W.” Halcom, Ernest Dean Halcom, Wilburn “Billy” Halcom, and Verlin Halcom; and her two infant sisters, Ina Bell Halcom and Nora Pearl Halcom. She is survived by her nephews, Lavern Dickey (Karen), Dwyane Halcom (Lelia), and Jim Halcom (Becky); her nieces, Eyvonne Nelson (Bill), Gayle Blackford (Duke), Annette Rogers (Roy); her grandson, Luis Gonzales (Barbara); and many extended family and friends.

Services are entrusted to Willis Funeral Service of Batesville, AR. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 2 pm, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sulphur Rock, AR. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Dwyane Halcom, Roy Rogers, Chris Gillihan, Jim Halcom, Dustin Halcom, and Alex Massey.
