A longtime area radio personality has passed away.

Dale Turner was the voice that many in and around the Newport area listened to for over 40 years on KNBY/KOKR. Turner died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at the age of 76.

Turner started his career as a disc jockey and eventually became general manager of KNBY/KOKR.

“We are very saddened to hear of his passing, and our hearts are with his family at this time,” the Arkansas Broadcasters Association said in a statement.

Turner was born April 2, 1946, in Newport, the son of Bill Cecil and Othella (Ahart) Turner.

He was a graduate of Newport High School and spent over 40 years at KNBY/KOKR radio station, retiring as general manager. He enjoyed writing and playing music and played lead guitar for many local bands, including Jeannie and The Guys and The Distance Band.

Turner was an avid reader who enjoyed watching movies with his daughter, watching sports, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Turner is survived by one daughter, Athena Turner Teall, and husband, Tim of Upper Peninsula, Mich.; two grandchildren, Timothy Teall and William Teall, both of Upper Peninsula, Mich.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a lifetime of friends.
