Investigative journalist, true crime author, podcaster, and Lyon College alumnus George Jared (pictured) will be the featured guest for an evening of Cocktails and Culprits hosted by the Lyon College Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations Friday, March 3, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the River and Sand Bar, 50 Riverbank Rd., Batesville.
A release from Lyon College says, “Jared will take guests on a deep dive into the criminal cases he has covered for decades, including the murder of 22-year-old college student Rebekah Gould in 2004, the mysterious death of Deborah Sue Williamson in 1975, and the 1993 case involving the West Memphis Three, one of the most famous criminal cases in U.S. legal history.”
Attendees will receive a signed copy of Jared’s recent true crime book, “Silent Silhouette.”
A Lyon College graduate in 2003, Jared began his journalism career in 2004. Months into that job, he started covering the Rebekah Gould murder case in Melbourne. He wrote about her case in two other books, “The Creek Side Bones” and “Whispers in the Willows.” Those books included his coverage of multiple death row executions and the infamous 1998 murders of the Elliott family by Billy and Chad Green.
Jared has covered the West Memphis Three case and profiled his experiences in the book “Witches in West Memphis.” His latest book, with co-author Jennifer Bucholtz, profiles the 1975 mysterious death of Deborah Sue Williamson, a newly married young woman living in Lubbock, Texas.
