The National Weather Service says severe storms will be possible over the southeastern half of Arkansas through tonight, but a much more substantial threat could come Thursday and Thursday night when a regional outbreak of severe weather appears likely.
Thursday’s storms include the potential for several strong tornadoes, widespread damaging winds, and large hail.
A flash flood watch is in effect through Friday morning. The threat of flash flooding will increase with the storms, and several inches of rain will fall over already saturated grounds. Some flooding may be significant.
The weather service also said the Black River at Black Rock will be under a flood warning from Friday afternoon until further notice. The river is expected to rise above its flood stage of 14 feet early Friday afternoon, with a crest of 20 feet expected early Saturday afternoon. The warning will affect Lawrence, Independence, and Jackson counties.
