After winning 22 games in a row, the Southside Senior Girls basketball team saw their season end in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday afternoon.
The Southerners took on Arkadelphia in first-round action, losing 58 to 53, and ending their season.
The Southerners were the fourth seed from the East Regional tournament. Southside won its first regional game against Pulaski Academy, 35-32. Then came two losses: the first to Heber Springs 46 to 37, and then to Brookland 53 to 35.
The Brookland game was to determine the third and fourth-place finishes in regional play. The win over Pulaski Academy assured Southside a state tournament berth.
The Southside girls finished with an outstanding record of 26-6, with three losses in a row.
