A Stone County man is facing charges after authorities say he rammed his Toyota truck into the back of another vehicle in Mountain View before fleeing the area.
According to the arrest affidavit for Ronald Kevin Oates, 52, when responding deputies arrived at Heritage Oaks Drive on Monday, Feb. 13, they observed a badly damaged SUV in the roadway.
The two SUV occupants told authorities they were driving on Heritage Oaks when they came upon Oates in the middle of the road, screaming and cursing and forcing them to stop their car.
The affidavit reported the juvenile passenger of the SUV said Oates allegedly told the two Oates was going to kill them both and to get out of the vehicle. The court info also said Oates allegedly swung at the SUV driver with a can of spray paint and threw a rock at the windshield and passenger window.
As the SUV began driving away, the passenger said Oates then ran to the Toyota pickup and began chasing them in the vehicle. The SUV’s occupants said Oates allegedly rammed the back of the SUV at least six or seven times. After stopping in the roadway, authorities said the truck turned around and fled the scene.
The court information also said two witnesses reported passing the SUV and the truck and saw the Toyota allegedly slam into the rear of the SUV, hitting it so hard it turned the Toyota sideways.
The witnesses said they then saw the Toyota begin to push the SUV down the road.
Deputies later made contact with Oates and placed him under arrest.
Oates is charged with two felony counts of second-degree battery, two felony counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, one felony count of aggravated assault, one felony count of first-degree mischief, and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor. He is currently incarcerated at the Stone County Jail on a bond of $50,000.
