A septic company that serves the Horseshoe Bend area may soon be facing charges concerning illegal dumping.
Izard County Sheriff Charley Melton tells White River Now his deputies responded to a call on Feb. 27 of one of the company’s trucks going into a currently undeveloped section of the Santa Fe Road area of Horseshoe Bend and dumping raw sewage.
The next day, deputies again responded to the area on another report of the truck actively dumping raw sewage on private property. When the deputies arrived, Melton says they observed a septic truck and several areas that looked to have been recently covered with sewage.
Melton says when company representatives were confronted about the dumping, they told the department they would stop and not do it again.
According to the sheriff, this is a rare situation, so the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) were contacted to seek assistance on what could be done.
Melton says his department is working with the ADH and ADEQ to ensure all possible criminal and civil repercussions are directed to the parties responsible.
