Julia Gross (pictured), a senior at Southside Charter High School, performed with the national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Senior Treble Honor Choir last week in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Gross was chosen last fall by blind audition to be included in the group.

The event included three and a half full days of rehearsal and concluded with a Saturday evening concert.

“ACDA was an amazing experience I will treasure for many years,” said Gross. “I enjoyed working with other vocalists, meeting world-renowned composers, and working with well-known director Pearl Shangkuan.”

Gross submitted a three-part audition recording last fall of her singing a one-minute solo, her voice part for a selected choral work, and scales showing her vocal range and pitch center. Students selected for the honor choirs hailed from all over the continental United States, along with Hawaii and Alaska. Gross had to learn six pieces before heading to Cincinnati and was vetted upon arrival to ensure she knew her music for the event. The choirs rehearsed for eight to nine hours daily to prepare for the final performance.

“Julia was one of nine students from the state of Arkansas to be part of the 300-voice ACDA Treble Honor Choir. We are so proud of her work and how she represented our school,” said Angela Weaver, Southside Charter High School choir teacher.
