More information has been released regarding the Jan. 30 killing of a Stone County woman.

Authorities say on that day, Fred Michael Mixon, 50, of Mountain View, called Faulkner County Sheriff Tim Ryals and told him about the shooting.

Mixon (pictured below), who lived in Stone County, called Ryals because he “just wanted to turn himself into someone he knew,” according to the arrest affidavit filed with documents today in Stone County Circuit Court.

Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long and some of his deputies responded to the address of Mixon on Jenson Road while Sheriff Ryals also came to the address in case he could assist in taking Mixon into custody.

Eventually, Mixon surrendered to Sheriff Ryals and local authorities. He was armed with a loaded .45-caliber handgun at the time.

After Stone County authorities executed a search warrant at Mixon’s residence, they found Leslie Jo Mixon, 57, deceased inside a shop building with an apparent shotgun wound to the face. A 12-gauge shotgun with a spent shell casing inside was also located in the shop.

The affidavit said Mixon told authorities that his wife never seemed to be happy, although he “gave her everything.” During a disagreement, Mixon said “he broke” after Leslie “laughed in his face.”

An autopsy of the body ruled the death as a homicide by a shotgun shooting.

Mixon has been charged with first-degree murder. He has been placed on a bond of $1 million. Click here for more on this story from White River Now.
