Three Batesville choir students were selected to perform in the national American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) choirs in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lauren Ramsey (12th grade), Molly Lucy (ninth grade), and Carly Gill (seventh grade).

To be selected for these choirs, the students submitted blind audition recordings of a one-minute solo, as well as ascending and descending scales, displaying vocal range, quality, and musicianship. The students competed against other students from all 50 states.

In the Junior High choir of 300 singers, 12 students represented the state of Arkansas (two being Molly and Carly). In the Senior High Treble of the same size, only nine students were Arkansans (Lauren being one).

Students were given the opportunity to work with leaders in the choral education field, like Andrea Ramsey, a nationally renowned director and composer who is also an Arkansas native.

Rehearsals were held for eight to nine hours a day for three days, culminating with a concert for families and convention attendees.

“We have been so fortunate to have students selected each year for the divisional and national ACDA conferences, but to have three in the same year at the national level of competition is just amazing. We are so proud of what Batesville has to offer for experiences in music education. All of our students work very hard, and we are proud to share these results with our community.” said Alicia Davidson, Batesville Schools Choir Director.
