A Stone County man accused of shooting and killing his wife is asking a judge to lower or reduce his $1 million jail bond.
The request was made yesterday by Fred Michael Mixon, 50, through his attorneys. In his request, Mixon said that the $1 million bond is one he is not able to post.
In asking for a lower bond, Mixon said the setting of a $1 million bond for the purpose of putting the bond out of the defendant’s reach was an abuse of discretion by the trial court.
Mixon is asking for a hearing before a judge set in a “reasonable” amount of time.
Mixon is accused of shooting his wife, Leslie Jo Mixon, 57, to death in late January.
Authorities say after the shooting, Fred Mixon barricaded himself in his residence on Jensen Road. Officers negotiated with Mixon to come out and discuss why he had barricaded himself inside the house. After a while, Mixon did so and was placed in custody while officers got a warrant to search the residence, where they found Leslie Jo Mixon deceased from a gunshot wound.
Mixon is charged with first-degree murder.
