A flood warning continues along the Black River at Black Rock, affecting three area counties. The National Weather Service says the warning will remain in effect until further notice.
The flood stage for the river is 14 feet. At 17 feet, low-lying cultivated land and pastures in Lawrence, Independence, and Jackson counties will flood. Agricultural land will flood along both banks of the Black River through the counties if the stage hits 20 feet. The Black River is expected to crest at 19.5 feet on Saturday.
The weather service reminds motorists not to drive around barricades or drive vehicles through flooded areas. Remember: Turn around. Don’t drown. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
