One person was injured and taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon after a residential fire on East Main Street in Batesville.
The Batesville Fire Department said there was one occupant in the house fire when it started yesterday around 4:30 p.m. A fire department spokesperson said the occupant was taken by ambulance to the hospital due to smoke inhalation. His condition was not considered to be life-threatening.
The spokesperson said firefighters were on the scene for about six hours. The residence is considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the spokesperson.
In a post on social media, the BFD thanked the Northside Volunteer Fire Department and the Southside Volunteer Fire Department for their mutual aid and assistance during the fire. The Batesville Police Department, Vital Link EMS, and the Independence County Office of Emergency Management were also singled out for their assistance during the emergency.
