Obituary: J.E. Pounders

J.E. Pounders, 74, who was known to his friends and family as “Bubba”, passed away in his home at Newport, Arkansas.  He was born December 10, 1948, to J.E. Pounders and Louise Pounders in Newport.

Bubba graduated with honors as a member of the Greyhound class of 1967.  He then attended Harding College in Searcy where he earned an accounting degree.  Following graduation, he began his career with the State of Arkansas in Little Rock.  He later returned to Newport where he remained until his death.

Bubba attended the Church of Christ with his family in his early years and continued to grow in his faith through Cornerstone Ministries.  He was an avid sports fan.  Bubba especially enjoyed keeping up with the Greyhounds, Arkansas Razorbacks, and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He loved to spend time visiting with family and friends.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters: Rudine (Glen) Jones, Jody (Jerry) Taylor, and Carolyn Howard.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Michael Pounders of Newport, Chris (Karen) Pounders of Maumelle; sister, Diane (David) Adams of Tuckerman; mother of his children, Susan Backus of Benton; special niece, Debbie Henderson of England; Special cousin, Skip (Teresa) Gipson of Little Rock; special friends, Tim and Kathy Burzynski of Jacksonport, Roger (Debbie) Bowman of Little Rock, Charles (Judy) McGuire of Newport, several nieces, nephews and three grandchildren.

The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Dillinger Funeral Home chapel with   Visitation to follow.

Memorials can be made to the Jackson County Humane Society at 4027 Campbell Avenue, Newport, AR. 72112, or a charity of your choice.
