Blevins to return to Old Independence Regional Museum for discussion

One of the Old Independence Regional Museum’s most popular speakers will return for a program at the museum next week.

Dr. Brooks Blevins (pictured), the Noel Boyd Professor of Ozark Studies at Missouri State University, is scheduled to speak Thursday, April 20, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss his latest work, “Up South In The Ozarks: Dispatches From The Margins.”

Dr. Blevins earned a bachelor’s degree with high honors from Lyon College and a master’s and Ph.D. from Auburn University. His professional career includes teaching positions at Lyon College, Mississippi State University, Ozarka College, and his current role at Missouri State. He is the author or editor of ten books, including his capstone work, “A History of the Ozarks Volumes 1-3.” He has also authored numerous articles.

His book will be available for purchase at the museum on the date of his talk while supplies last. The event is free and open to the public.

The Old Independence Regional Museum is located at 380 S. 9th St. in Batesville.
