Obituary: Alfred Henry Sexton

Alfred Henry Sexton of Optimus Township in Stone County, Arkansas entered into the “joys” of his Lord Jesus Christ on April 12, 2023. He was born on June 28, 1931, and passed from this world at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 15 days.

Alfred was a soft-spoken man of few words with a gentle spirit and a Christ-like attitude. He often said, “if you cannot say something good about a person, don’t say anything at all.” He honored God with his life and quiet example and loved his family with all his being. Early in his life he worked as a logger and timber hauler before moving to Monette, Arkansas. He worked as a machinist and in manufacturing management until 1965 and then transferred to Carrollton, Texas where he worked until 1978. He then bought a farm and moved to Optimus (Stone County, Arkansas) to enjoy life in the quiet hills and hollows. He loved hunting and fishing and working on various projects at his church, New Hope Christian Fellowship on Culp Road. He was always ready to lend a hand and help anyone in need as he followed the example of Christ in every area of his life.

He was born in Stone County, Arkansas at Boswell, Arkansas to parents Henry B. and Pearl Edith (Corter) Sexton and was the seventh child of thirteen. He is preceded in death by his wife, Erma June (Chism) Sexton; his parents, Henry B. and Pearl Edith Sexton and his brothers, Ralph, Alf, Alvin, Calvin, Clifford and his sisters, Ada, Ruby, Martha, Ellen, Pauline and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Helen Doris (Hodge) Sexton; his sons, Garry Alfred Sexton and his wife, Janell, Paul Henry Sexton and his wife, Dianne. He is also survived by grandsons, Kevin, Kyle and Paul Sexton; one sister, Flossie (Sexton) Corter and stepchildren, Joan Maloy, Ronald Herron, Patsy Mullinax, Robert (Bob) Herron, Margaret Volner, Charles Mullinax, Jay Mullinax, Larry Mullinax; twenty grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

A family and friend’s visitation will be held on Sunday evening, April 16, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with the funeral on April 17, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Services were conducted at the New Hope Christian Fellowship Church off Highway 5 at Culp Road two miles south of Calico Rock with Alfred’s grandson, Reverend Kyle Sexton officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Sexton II, Kevin Sexton, Gene Beach, Dylan Sexton, Jerry Brewer and Ron Herron. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Corter and Jimmy Cantrell.
