A special education paraprofessional at White River Academy has been named as the April recipient of the Citizens Bank “Above & Beyond” Award.

Nyiece Owens (pictured above, right, with Ashley Engles of Citizens Bank) received the award at Monday’s Batesville School Board meeting.

In a release announcing the award, her colleagues spoke of her willingness and positive attitude:

  • “She is an awesome person who loves the kids and the staff and is always willing to help without any questions asked.”
  • “Mrs. Owens does not know how not to go above and beyond. She is always willing to help any student, any parent, or any staff member who is in need. She never says she can’t help. She has vast experiences that lend themselves to meet each person where they are. She shares her passions for learning and art with her students. She makes White River Academy a better place to learn and work.”
  • “Mrs. Owens never says no to whatever is needed for our students. She always has a smile on her face and does whatever is needed to help our students be successful.”

Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today’s students for tomorrow’s challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card, and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
