An Izard County man was arrested on drug charges early Saturday morning after officers responded to a report of a person passed out in front of a residence.
When authorities arrived, they found Joshua Cagle, 37, of Wideman, slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle, with “…the odor of illicit narcotics present,” according to a release from the Izard County Sheriff’s Department. He came too shortly after officers woke him up, and they then checked him for contraband.
After a probable cause search, authorities say several narcotics were found on Cagle and in his vehicle, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, Xanax pills, Buprenorphine pills, hypodermic syringes with a liquid, marijuana, and a .380 pistol.
Cagle, a previously convicted felon, was arrested and charged with eight violations, seven of which are felonies. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
According to the sheriff’s department, in this case, fentanyl was mixed with a “binder” and pressed to look like a different pharmaceutical medicine. Deputies also said they are seeing fentanyl mixed with many popular drugs in an attempt to increase addiction by the distributors.
A direct effect of this has been countless accidental overdoses.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, call the Izard County Sheriff’s Department at (870) 368-4203 and ask to speak with one of the peer specialists.
