The body of a man who had been reported missing was found in Lake Cherokee on Tuesday, May 16.
Cherokee Village Police Chief Monte Lane said the body was that of 35-year-old Derek Hughes.
According to an article from Region 8 News, witnesses last saw Hughes leaving the Copper Feather Bar and Grille intoxicated on Saturday night, May 13.
It is unclear whether Hughes left on foot or in a vehicle. His body was recovered from the lake around noon on Tuesday. The cause of death is still under investigation. The Sharp County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation, Lane said.
According to officials, Hughes had a previous Tennessee address but was listed as living on Griffin Road in Hardy.
