BUC Richard Anthony “Dutch” Wigman, 90, of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away June 7th, 2023, peacefully, at The Blossoms Nursing Home.
He was born August 21st, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Dan & Angeline Soletske Wigman.
In 1952, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. After boot camp, he was assigned to the Salisbury Sound Tour. Richard came down with an illness and spent some time in the hospital. After being discharged from the hospital he was transferred to the Rickene Ship for several years. Richard was assigned to the Naval Station in Dallas, then assigned to the U.S. Marines Naval Services as an instructor. His career would then lead him to the Seabee’s Division (MCB5) Battalion. He spent two years in Midway Island, transferred to Iwakuni, Japan for three years, transferred to Iwanai, Japan, then Okinawa, Japan, did two tours in Vietnam, then finished his Navy career in Hawaii, after twenty-six years, on December 7th, 1978. Richard was a proud Navy Veteran and served his country with honor. After retirement, he moved to Dallas, Texas and built a home. For ten years Richard taught carpentry at Skyline ISD, before retiring a second time. He moved to Mountain View in 1988. He was loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Wigman of Glasgow, Scotland; one grandson, Aaron Wigman of Glasgow, Scotland; fiancée, Linda Hutto of Mountain View, Arkansas; one stepson, Jasper Scott (Ginger) of Mt. Vernon, Texas; one step-daughter, Kim Hart (Jim) of Kaufman, Texas; special cousin, Ted Wigman of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Angeline Wigman; loving wife, Wanda Wigman.
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 12th, 2023, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, beginning at 10:00 am. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and Stone County Honor Guard.
