A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the Independence County Senior Citizens Program’s new Senior Center at 950 Elm Street in Batesville. According to a release from the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28.
The new modern facility will enable the Independence County Senior Citizens Program to increase its services to seniors, including expanded wellness activities and programming and the ability to offer simultaneous events and activities, the chamber said. The property was donated to the county by the Batesville School District after having been part of the district’s Water Street campus for decades. The building also housed the NADC Head Start Center and Pre-Head Start program in Batesville.
The mission of the Independence County Senior Citizens Program is to provide services that enable seniors aged 60 or older to maintain their dignity and independence in the least restrictive environment possible, to provide services that promote wellness, and to instill in its participants a lasting sense of self-worth. Their services include meal service and delivery, transportation, and social and wellness events.
The chamber invites all community supporters, chamber members, ambassadors, board members, and staff to attend.
