A Batesville man was arrested after a weekend pursuit that wound through the city’s industrial park and finally ended in a residential neighborhood.

According to the incident report, an Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling North Saint Louis Street on Saturday night clocked a southbound Nissan Altima speeding at 94 mph in a 60 mph zone.

When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, the report said the driver accelerated to speeds of over 100 mph, swerving the vehicle across lanes and causing motorists to leave the road. At one point, the vehicle traveled onto Industrial Drive, passing the Bad Boy Mowers facility, and then ran a stop sign as it turned onto White Drive.

After slowing down with regard to public safety and losing a visual of the vehicle, authorities learned the Altmia was seen entering the North Park subdivision off White Drive.

Officers from the sheriff’s department and the Batesville Police Department eventually located the Altima behind a Clear Water Trace residence and took the driver, identified as Gavino M. Rodriguez, 31, into custody.

A vehicle search later yielded a baggie of marijuana weighing less than four ounces, the report said.

Rodriguez faces one felony fleeing charge and two misdemeanor charges: speeding and marijuana possession.
