UPDATE: Escapee back in custody

UPDATE: Joshua Harris (pictured), who had run from the Northeast Arkansas Community Correction Center Friday afternoon while taking out the trash, is now back in custody. According to the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADOC), Harris was apprehended a few miles from the center at a highway exit.

Harris, 32, will be transferred to the Division of Correction for housing in a more secure unit. He is serving a five-year sentence for drug-related convictions. Now, he will face an escape charge.

Authorities say a man serving a drug-related sentence out of Independence County has run away from a corrections facility in northeast Arkansas.

The Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADOC) says a search is underway in Osceola for Joshua Harris, a resident of the Northeast Arkansas Community Correction Center, after he ran from the facility Friday afternoon, July 7.

Harris (pictured), who is serving a five-year sentence out of Independence County for four counts of drug possession, was taking out the trash when he ran, said ADOC officials.

The search for him is centered in fields near the facility. Harris is a 32-year-old white male with sandy-colored hair and blue eyes. Harris is 6’ and weighs 162 pounds. He has tattoos of a cross and Tweety Bird on his right forearm and Tiff on his ring finger. Harris also has a scar on either side of his neck.

The Northeast Community Correction Center houses offenders whose crimes are non-violent and non-sexual. Most of the residents are serving short sentences for drug crimes.

Authorities say anyone with information on the whereabouts of Joshua Harris should call 911.
