Construction of new additions to the Southside Junior High School and Southside High School should soon start now that the construction contract for the project has been signed. The project is the result of the millage passed in 2021. (Click here for more on the passage of the millage.)
“We would like to express our gratitude to the community, parents, and faculty for their unwavering support and commitment to our students’ education,” the district said in a statement on Friday announcing the contract’s execution. “Your belief in our mission has made this expansion project possible, and we can’t wait to witness the positive impact it will have on our students’ ‘Future Stories.’”
According to the district’s release, highlights of the project will include:
- Modern, spacious classrooms equipped “…with cutting-edge technology, fostering innovation and collaborative learning.”
Science and technology labs dedicated to scientific experiments and hands-on exploration. - Multi-purpose spaces for extracurricular activities, club meetings, and community events.
- A Fine Arts Suite designed to be “…a hub for collaboration…where creativity knows no bounds and where dreams are transformed into masterpieces.”
- An upgrade for athletic facilities, providing students with “…top-notch spaces for physical education and sports.”
“As our school continues to grow and flourish, we are committed to providing the best educational experience for our students,” said Superintendent Dion Stevens. “This expansion project marks an important milestone in our journey, as it will enhance our facilities and create an even more successful learning environment for our students’ ‘Future Stories.’”
