Mrs. Shirley K. (Harris) Davis of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born July 30, 1938, in West Point, Arkansas, the daughter of Devilla and Guyluia (Walker) Harris.
On December 3, 1953, Miss Shirley Harris married Mr. Ewell Davis, and together they enjoyed nearly 70 years, raising their two children, enjoying their granddaughter and three great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Davis worked alongside her husband for over 42 years. First, as co-owner and operator of Davis IGA for 27 years, retiring in 2000. She is fondly remembered by many children for giving them extra candy and goodies and for the Davis’s barbecue sandwiches. After retiring from the grocery business, Mr. and Mrs. Davis began traveling all over the country delivering ambulances for Taylor Made Ambulance until 2015. She enjoyed traveling and always kept a bag packed and was ready to go with a moment’s notice.
Mrs. Davis was a wonderful cook. Her family had many favorites, with her dressing and banana pudding at the top of the list. She was an avid gardener. Mrs. Davis loved being outside growing and tending her flowers and vegetables. Her yard was a great source of joy for her and she kept watch over every blade of grass. Mrs. Davis was never one to be idle; she was always busy. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Mrs. Davis will forever be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, always thinking of others before herself, and her great love of family, especially her granddaughter and her great-granddaughters.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Harris and Travis Harris; four sisters, Betty Jo Owens, Inolene Willis, Flora Brown, and Helen Harris; and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Ewell Davis, of the home; one son, Shane Davis and wife, Annette, of Jonesboro; one daughter, Debbie Davis Jones and husband, Scott, of Newport; one granddaughter, Lori Adams and husband, Ken, of Jonesboro; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Hopkins, Rylee Hopkins, and Maggie Adams, all of Jonesboro; one sister, Joyce Ahart of Cabot; several nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, July 24, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bill Chambers officiating. Interment will be in Watson Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Shane Davis, Scott Jones, Ken Adams, Rickey Harris, Josh Harris, Zach Harris, and Chad Harris.
