Two Independence County law enforcement officers were recognized for saving the lives of two individuals in 2022.
Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens (pictured above, left) and Batesville Police Officer Hutton Grace (right) were given Naloxone Life Saving Awards at a ceremony Wednesday morning at the Independence County Sheriff’s Department. Tommy Mitchum (center), representing the State of Arkansas, presented the awards to the officers in conjunction with the University of Arkansas System Criminal Justice Institute, the State of Arkansas Office of Drug Director, and the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.
Stephens received recognition for life-saving efforts performed on an individual on Dec. 30, 2022, while Grace’s efforts stemmed from a Sept. 12, 2022 incident.
Naloxone is a synthetic drug utilized to rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
