The Independence County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of a phone scam.
The department said the scam involves a caller who claims to be Mike Mundy, working in the warrants division at the Independence County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller informs the intended victim that they missed a court date, and they currently have a warrant for their arrest, but they can pay their fine/bond by phone with a credit card.
The Independence County Sheriff’s Department does not ask for payment on warrants over the phone. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, and they ask for payment on a warrant, please hang up, and do not give them any information. Anyone who has receives such a call should call the Independence County Sheriff’s Department at (870) 793-8838.
