
A woman is in custody after a stabbing death in the southern part of Independence County Wednesday morning.
According to the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to a home in the Hutchinson Mountain community for a report of a stabbing incident.
Upon arrival, deputies located a female subject, identified as Melanie Mullins. Authorities say another subject involved, identified as Gerald Swaim, was transported by private vehicle to White River Health.
The sheriff’s department said law enforcement was later called to a parking lot near White River Health, where Swaim was pronounced dead from the injuries. Mullins was taken into custody and transported to the Independence County Detention Center.
According to the jail roster, Melanie Elaine Mullins, 39, of Sulphur Rock, is being held on a charge of murder in the first degree with a $1,000,000 bond.
Officials said this is an ongoing and active investigation.
