Cody Lane Abeln, 17, passed away on August 7, 2023. He was born in Cameron, Missouri, on April 25, 2006, to Brad Abeln and Amanda Utter.
Cody was a hardworking country boy. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, working on the farm, and especially remodeling his truck, which he loved to decorate with Trump flags and stickers. Cody was also strong yet gentle and caring. At a young age, Cody battled and beat Stage 3 Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Cody was a fighter and didn’t let cancer stop him from living his life. He went on to become an apprentice plumber and a junior firefighter and worked hard to try to graduate early in 2024.
Cody was always willing to help others. He would do anything for his family and friends, especially when it came to his sisters. Although he would tease his sisters, as any good brother does, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He also loved his girlfriend Alyssa and even planned to marry her someday. To Cody, friends and family were everything. Those who were lucky enough to know and love him knew they could always count on him. Cody was a loving son, brother, grandson, boyfriend, cousin, and friend whose memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Brad Abeln; great-grandfather, Edward Strait; and great-grandma, Roma Abeln. He is survived by his parents, George and Amanda Utter; sisters, Cheyanne Abeln, Carlee Utter, Makayla Utter, and McKinzie Utter; grandmother, Tammy Strait; grandfather, Bob Day; great-grandmother, Sue Strait; uncle, Dwayne Speaks (Donna); aunts, Brenda Spainhour, Michelle Blasingane (Frankie), and Sherrie Thomas (Pat); as well as many cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held at Willis Funeral Service on Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
