Doyle “Doc” Hawk departed this life on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born September 25, 1937, the son of Clifton Hawk and Eva (Mofield) Hawk.
Mr. Hawk was a graduate of Swifton High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Hawk’s first restaurant was a KFC in New Iberia, Louisiana. He later sold that restaurant to buy Kelly’s Restaurant in Newport. He also owned Newport Dairy Queen for many years. Until his retirement, he owned Doc’s Catering. Mr. Hawk took pride in serving his community. He loved to play golf, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Mr. Hawk was a member of the Tuckerman Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Hawk; his mother, Eva (Mofield) Norris; two brothers, Billy Hawk and Charles “Pete” Hawk; two sisters, Evelyn King and Charlene Milligan.
Mr. Hawk is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Katie (Hembrey) Hawk; one son, Michael Sexton and wife, Ashley, of Edgemont; one daughter, Melissa Newlun and husband, James, of Farmington, New Mexico; one brother, Boyce Hawk and wife, Sonny, of Little Rock; three grandchildren, Matthew Newlun of Newport, Michael Newlun of Farmington, New Mexico, and Sarah Toddy and husband, Joe, of Hinesville; four great-grandchildren, Kale, Alaina, Drew, and Isabella; several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Swifton Cemetery, with Mr. James Newlun officiating.
