A $2,000 grant has been awarded to the Humane Society of Independence County (HSIC) from the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF).

The HSIC said in a release that the generous grant will further its lifesaving efforts in helping low-income community members spay and neuter their pets, ultimately reducing the number of animals entering the shelter system. The AARF investment will greatly benefit the community by ensuring that community animals receive the necessary spay and neuter services. By assisting with this cost through coupons, the HSIC aims to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the burden of pet overpopulation.

HSIC Board Member Alisa R. Lancaster expressed gratitude for the grant.

“We cannot adopt our way out of our pet overpopulation. This grant, provided by the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation, allows the HSIC to continue their lifesaving work of making a difference in the lives of the animals,” Lancaster said.

The AARF investment will enable the HSIC to continue its $50 spay and neuter coupons, directly addressing the issue of pet overpopulation. The HSIC said this will benefit individual pets and their owners and contribute to reducing the number of animals entering the shelter system.

Since its establishment in 1985, the HSIC has dedicated itself to rescuing and providing a safe shelter for abandoned, abused, homeless, and unwanted dogs and cats within the county. Their mission also includes finding loving and stable homes for these animals. The HSIC aims to fulfill a community-wide goal of reducing the unwanted pet population by promoting spaying and neutering through education and awareness initiatives.
