If your travel routine includes driving Highway 177 across Norfork Dam, the next two months will see intermittent closures of the road for maintenance work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The northbound lane of Highway 177 will close from 6:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1. Traffic lights will be present to assist with traffic flow, but the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) says motorists should plan for additional travel time.
Interment full closures are tentatively scheduled for the following dates:
- Sept. 11 through Sept. 14, 2023
- Sept. 25 through Sept. 27, 2023
- Oct. 16 through Oct. 19, 2023
- Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, 2023
The closures are being coordinated with emergency services and law enforcement agencies. Traffic will use a detour during the full road closures.
Travel to locations southbound on Highway 177 past the Norfork dam closure will require a detour using Highway 5 through Norfork, then Baxter County Road #64 north back to Highway 177 at Jordan.
Northbound travelers on Highway 177 will need to take the detour around the dam on Baxter County Road #64 south from Jordan to Highway 5 south of Norfork.
