Obituary: Charles “Buddy” Dunn

Mr. Charles “Buddy” Dunn of Newport, Arkansas departed this life on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born January 8, 1934 in Newport, the son of Homer Elijah and Eulah Elizabeth (Cooper) Murphy Dunn.

Mr. Dunn was a United States Marine Veteran, serving during the Korean conflict as a radio telegraph operator. He earned the rank of Sergeant before being Honorably Discharged in January, 1956.

Mr. Dunn was owner and operator of Buddy and Eddies Auto Parts in Newport for 14 years, while also working his farm. He served his community many years as a Diaz City Alderman, beginning in 1990.

Mr. Dunn was a member of the Umstead Memorial Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta (Deason) Dunn; two grandsons, Benji Eiler and Chris Dunn; one daughter-in-law, Tonya Dunn; three sisters, Betty Jean Denham, Patsy Roberts, and Joyce Davenport; and his parents.

Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife, Etta Mae (Kirksey) Dunn of the home; two sons, Danny Dunn of Tuckerman, and David Dunn of Newport; one daughter, Debbie Carpenter and husband, Eddie, of Newport; one stepson, Robert Parnell, II of Newark; one stepdaughter, Karen Parnell Pyle Cooper of Newport; several grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at Jackson’s Funeral Home, Saturday, September 16, 2023 9:00-9:45 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Mr. Jimmy Cooper officiating.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Matthew Pyle, Ty Dunn, Hayden Eiler, Josh Loftin, Jeremy Williams, Nicholas Goff, Conner Goff, and Eric Wood.
