Shirley (Norris) Lemay of Bono, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the age of 83. She was born March 16, 1940, in Swifton, Arkansas, the daughter of Ed and Lillie Mae (Couch) Norris.
Ms. Lemay was a graduate of Swifton High School, later earning her nurse’s license. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes for 36 years, retiring in 2005. Ms. Lemay was a wonderful, compassionate and hard-working nurse.
She enjoyed going to senior dances, and watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball and was an avid reader. Ms. Lemay’s greatest joy came from raising her children, spending time with her family, and tending to her cats.
She was an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Ms. Lemay was preceded in death by her son, Joey Douglas Lemay; her son-in-law, Christopher Young; six brothers, Clarence, Joe, Noel Gene, Shelby, Charles, and Bobby Norris; two sisters, Verniece Abbott and Erma Lee Kimbrough; her children’s father, Charles Douglas Lemay; and her parents.
She is survived by one daughter, Angela (Lemay) Young of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Hubert Norris and wife, Linda of Swifton, Arkansas; one sister, Joyce Tims of Jonesboro; a host of nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit the funeral home, on Thursday, October 5, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be at Arnold Cemetery.
