Officials say two people have died in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 67 in Jackson County.
According to a report from Region 8 News, northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 67 near the 226 interchange shut down following the vehicle pile-up Tuesday afternoon. ArDOT reported the northbound lanes were still closed at 5 p.m., but southbound lanes were reopen.
Arkansas State Police (ASP) said as many as 15 vehicles, including four commercial and 11 passenger cars were reportedly involved.
ASP confirmed a field fire with thick smoke caused low visibility along the highway, likely leading to the crash.
Region 8 News reporter Griffin DeMarrais reported seeing three helicopters leaving from the scene around 3 p.m.
As of 4 p.m., there was no official word on how many people were injured.
