A Stone County man has been charged in circuit court with felony second-degree battery and second-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

According to the court information, the charges stem from a Sept. 21 incident in which Jodi and Stephen Kinkhammer were allegedly assaulted in their home by 45-year-old William Blair Brewer (pictured below).

Brewer’s arrest affidavit said the Kinkhammers had allowed him to stay at their home because Brewer was homeless due to an ongoing divorce process.

According to the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, the incident started after an apparently inebriated Brewer became agitated over his tobacco being smoked by Stephen Kinkhammer. When Kinkhammer offered to replace it, the affidavit said Brewer grabbed him and began slamming Kinkhammer against the wall and punching him in his midsection.

As the assault occurred, Jodi Kinkhammer entered the room, attempting to intervene on behalf of her husband, and was “backhanded…across the room” by Brewer, according to the affidavit.

Brewer was taken into custody, and his bond was set at $10,000.

The affidavit said that Stephen Kinkhammer suffered broken ribs and bruising from being punched.
