A former Augusta High School principal and softball coach has been arrested after an investigation into his behavior with female students, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Jacob Shafer, 33, of Palestine, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, after being charged with second-degree sexual assault (a Class B felony) and sexual indecency with a child (a Class D felony).

A release from the Arkansas State Police said the arrest results from an investigation requested in July 2023 by the Woodruff County prosecutor after the Augusta School District terminated Shafer due to alleged inappropriate behavior with female students.

Shafer is being held in the Woodruff County Jail.
