A North Little Rock man was arrested Saturday in Batesville after allegedly being involved in a Sharp County robbery.
According to court information, Arkansas State Police Trooper Ethan Sanders spotted the Toyota Camry that was apparently involved in the robbery, just north of Batesville on Highway 167 Saturday afternoon.
When Sanders flipped on his emergency lights, the Camry took off at a high rate of speed, forcing other vehicles off the road and almost striking an Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy patrol vehicle. The court information said the Camry ran two red lights on Highway 167 (St. Louis Street in Batesville) and was moving at speeds approaching 120 mph.
After Sanders initiated a tactical vehicle intervention on the Camry at Ramsey Mountain, the vehicle rammed into a ditch. From there, authorities said Jeremiah Jerome Johnson (pictured below), 25, fled on foot into the woods where he was chased and caught by Trooper Sanders after a brief fight.
Johnson’s arrest affidavit noted that not only does he have pending charges in Sharp County, but he is also on parole and has a history of failing to appear. He has been convicted of more than four felonies.
Johnson is being charged with one felony count of fleeing, one felony count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and five misdemeanors. He is also being charged as a habitual offender.
Johnson’s bond was set at $50,000. After initially being held at the Independence County Jail, Johnson was transferred to the Sharp County Jail on Tuesday.
